It was a lesson in top-flight football by Everton. They schooled the promoted side West Brom at Goodison Park in a lunch-time kick off that wouldn't have disappointed any neutral fans.

West Brom's young starlet Grady Diangana had given the Premier league newcomers a surprise lead when he drove the ball forward on his own with little options to turn to. But it turned out he didn't need anyone else as he thumped a brilliant effort past Pickford to give West Brom their first goal of the season.

Everton were kept at bay for a some time but eventually a scramble in the box led to Calvert-Lewin skilfully back-heeling a loose ball into the net at the half-hour mark. The goal was initially ruled offside but eventually given after a lengthy VAR review.

However it wouldn't take much time for Everton to take the lead. Just before half-time, Richarlison had ghosted past a couple West Brom challenges to gift James Rodriguez a chance just outside the box. The Everton new boy then struck a low-driven shot into the bottom corner to make it 2-1; his first goal for the club since joining from Real Madrid in the summer.

It quickly went from bad to worse for West Brom as Rodriguez went to the ground after Kieran Gibbs lashed out after a light challenge from the Columbian. from Rodriguez. Referee Mike Dean didn't care for Gibbs' furious reaction and issued an immediate red card.

After the half-time whistle, West Brom manager Slaven Bilic was livid with the sending off and confronted Mike Dean over Gibbs' dismissal. This rage-fuelled encounter didn't end well and Dean sent off Bilic as well.

Despite the turmoil, West Brom wasted no time getting back into the game after the restart. Their talisman Matheus Pereira curled home an outrageous free kick a couple of minutes into the second half, to bring the score level and give his team renewed hope.

But that was short-lived. Not long later, Everton found themselves back in the lead when Michael Keane converted a rebound that fell perfectly into his path a yard out from goal. Seconds before, West Brom's keeper had done decently to keep out Richarlison's header from Digne's free kick.

They then doubled their advantage when James Rodriguez brilliantly floated a pass into a dangerous area into Richarlison, who fizzed a ball across goal and was met by the out-stretched leg of Calvert Lewin.

Moments later the Toffees hit the crossbar with a swift curling shot from Digne. But West Brom weren't off the hook yet. The subsequent corner was whipped into the box and met by Calvert-Lewin who headed home his hat-trick goal- the first of his professional career.

Richarlison almost made it six for the home team when his well-taken volley that flew into the roof of the net was judged to be fractionally off-side.

In the end, Everton won by a comfortable 5-2 score line and have continued to show they may be the league's dark horse this season after their impressive away win at Spurs last weekend. As for West Brom- it's back to the drawing board. They have now started the season with back-to-back losses; each with 3 goal deficits.
